Why Willow Tit?
Every now and then someone asks me how I came up with this particular stage name, so let me open it up a little.
When I started burlesque back in 2019 it was crystal clear to me that I aim for performing stages. For that I needed an artist name easy to say and easy to remember and yet something that feels my own. Not an easy task as many of you might know.
I got suggestions from my friends, I used all kinds of name generators, I tried anagrams, but nothing felt right. Then one day I was wondering in nature museum and saw stuffed birds in a showcase. They were different kinds of tits and especially willow tit caught my attention. So tiny, so grey, so unnoticeable and yet so cute. What I didn't know, was that tiainen (in Finnish) actually translates into a English as a tit. And that I found amusing.
I told about my discovery to my friend Ella, asking if she knew that hömötiainen is willow tit in English. It was news to her too, but then Ella said that well then, that should be your artist name. Really? I mean willow tit, as a common bird? But then, after feeling and tasting that name I started to find confluences to my person.
Willow (paju) is tough and flexible - as me. Willow also reminds me of Ireland for some reason. And Ireland has a special place in my heart. Tit,or tits, are something I have and are very much burlesque related. Willow tit is a common bird, small, grey, invisible, but yet quite fearless and makes acquaintances easily. That's how I would describe myself :)
After a little consideration I took that name for myself.
Willow Tit was born and ready to fly!
