Private gigs

Yesterday I was privileged to perform at a private event and would like to share some thoughts.
First of all I was so so happy to get that inquiry few weeks ago. For me it's rare, mostly because I'm not actively "selling" myself on private sector. To be honest, this was my number 3 private gig in my history of burlesque but very fun & lovely one!
Must admit, for a start I was super nervous!
Private events are so far away from produced burlesque events. You can't be sure for anything. How is your audience, are they familiar with burlesque? Where you're about to perform, how much space you have? Where you can change your clothing? Is there a proper sound system? Who's doing pick-upping? So many questions and things to make sure for best possible experience for all. Not just for me as a performer, but for customers as well. I'm quite adaptive and I can change maneuvers if needed, and that ability is super helpful when thinking performing at private events.
About yesterday then. I couldn't get answers to all my questions due to a reasons beyond customers control and that was a bit disturbing. I wanted to play safe and did a last minute cry out for help and was lucky to get my dear burly buddy Jazzy NaNa to assist. However, everything was well organized and I'm sure that despite her help things would have worked out just fine, but because of her, they worked out beautifully. I'm glad I did ask her and that she was able to come! So this is something I should keep on mind and note to self, ask someone you trust to assist. It brings you peace of mind so that you can focus on what you're there for - entertaining.
My audience didn't know what they are about to see, I was total surprise to them. I was introduced only by name and given instructions to cheer. Oh my, how wonderfully obedient they were. I sure got fair share of cheers, laughs and clapping. Such a great audience, even though I might have confused some. I got such a nice feedback right on spot and felt proud of my doings.
All in all, this experience was lovely and I'm glad I got this opportunity. I now have more tools in my glittery bag and I'm more prepared for any upcoming private gigs.
Bring it on!
