Amethyst
I thought I would open up a little some of my routines and stories behind them. Let's start with 'Amethyst'
On early 2020 my friend contacted me and asked if I could perform at the anniversary fest of the Europa Donna breast cancer association. I was more than happy to do so, and we started discussing about what kind of performances would be appropriate. At that point I only had two ready routines and I promised to make slight changes to them. I also contacted Lappeenranta Burleski association and asked if they would co-operate in order to put up a bit bigger show. They agreed and the event began to take shape. We had plenty of time because the event wasn't supposed to take place until October.
At some point I read an article of Amethyst and what features and benefits it is believed to have. I also found beautiful album called 'Bridges' from Icelandic artist Eivor and was listening it at the same time when reading the article. A combination of the two gave rise to an idea of a routine that hit my mind crystal clear and so Amethyst was born. I created a choreography with a help from Marie Mint and ordered costume from Olivia Rouge and Lilja Ludi. I spent whole summer practicing this routine as I wanted it to be perfect. At the same time Lappeenranta Burleski was rehearsing their group performance. And then, boom, pandemic made it too risky to run that anniversary fest and it had to be cancelled. I felt so bad for all of us!
So I decided to put up a little fundraising live stream and with a help from my friends I was able to do so. I don't know how many people I was able to reach or how much fundraising yielded for the breast cancer association, but for me it was super important that premier of this routine was specifically for the breast cancer association.
After that I've performed it twice on burlesque events but felt that it's not optimal for those. The original version of 'Amethyst' is based on modern dance and is loaded with so much emotions. The whole routine is so personal that it's overwhelming. If it's emotionally heavy to perform how heavy it is to watch?! Even though I'm doing my art from my own basis, I also think I have some responsibility towards the audience. So I obviously needed to do something and my options were either reject the routine or modify it. I decided to modify it.
On 21.1.2023 was premiere of a new born Amethyst and let me tell you, it felt good! I wasn't exhausted afterwards and audience liked it. The heavy silence was no longer existing but some cheers instead. Routine still has aspects from modern dance, costume is same with addition of stockings and whirling tassels, and story behind is there.
I'm more than happy to offer this routine now to the events. No more heavy hearts not for me nor for the audience, Amethyst has done her magic.
If you want to donate for Europa Donna breast cancer association you can do it here.
Thank you!
